Silverton Oregon
In the 1800’s, the first settlers came to the banks of the Silver Creek. In 1846, James Smith and John Barger established a sawmill on the creek, and a small settlement called Milford began to grow. In 1854, Milford was abandoned and the businesses that had started there moved downstream to the current site of the City of Silverton.
Silverton was incorporated in 1885. By 1894, the population was nearly 900. Silverton is known for its small-town charm. It attracts residents with its older homes filled with character. Silverton is well known for its many festivals, such as the Silverton Arts Festival, Homer Daveport Days, Mother’s Day Wildflower Show, the Iris Jubilee, and the Strawberry Festival just to name a few. Cooley’s Iris Display Garden also provides a colorful reminder of Silverton’s roots.
Silverton homes have appreciated significantly over the years. Some new construction has occurred and it remains a desirable place to live. With an excellent local hospital, good schools, and small town charm, Silverton is a sought-after small town.
