A Brief History of Aumsville
Settlers arrived in the Aumsville area around 1842, mostly missionaries at first. By 1863, the area had several families calling it home. Henry Turner, a local landowner, built a flour mill on his property—a significant step in forming what would eventually become the town.
Turner had a soft spot for his son-in-law, Amos Davis, affectionately calling him Aumus. When Davis tragically passed away before the mill was completed, Turner honored his memory by naming the town Aumusville. Over time, the name evolved to the Aumsville we know today.
