Mount Angel Oregon

A pioneer by the name of Benjamin Cleaver came to Oregon in 1848, and in 1850 settled at the present site of the City of Mount Angel. It was known as Frankfurt until 1883 when the name was changed to Mount Angel.

Benedictine Monks arrived from Engelberg, Switzerland in October 1882. In 1883, Father Odermatt built a chapel, today known as the Mt. Angel Abbey, on the summit of Tapalamaho (Lone Butte) and named both the butte and the community Mount Angel. The Monastery is still there and is an active part of the community.

The city was incorporated in 1893 by the vote of its 25 legal voters. Mt. Angel is located in the central Willamette Valley about 15 miles from Salem. It has a Bavarian atmosphere and celebrates the Oktoberfest Festival every year which is a well-attended event.  Mt. Angel maintains its small-town charm to this day.

Mt. Angel real estate is much more affordable than its nearby counterpart, Silverton.
