Sublimity Oregon

Located about 15 miles west of Salem is Sublimity Oregon. The Native Americans that inhabited the area were known as Santiams. The area was mostly a vast forest prior to the 1840’s, but the Native Americans regularly burned it to provide feeding grounds for deer.

Settlers started to arrive about 1840 and Sublimity became a trading post. It was originally called Hobson Corner, but was officially named Sublimity when it received its post office in 1852. James Denny selected the name because of the “fine vista and sublime scenery.”

Sublimity is a rural residential town located in the midst of rolling hills. It has a population of approximately 2,500 people. Sublimity has a K-8 school with approximately 300 students which feeds into Stayton High School. The Sublimity school consistently gets high marks from the Oregon Department of Education for its quality.

It is a strong community and hosts the annual Harvest Fest which attracts thousands of visitors to this small town. Many residents stay in Sublimity, so it is a community where “everyone knows everyone.” Sublimity is comprised mostly of single-family homes with residents commuting to Salem or other towns for work. Sublimity has seen an increase in development of homes in the past few years as homeowners wanting a more rural feel have moved to the community. New construction, higher-end homes are on larger lots. Sublimity has worked hard to maintain its small-town feel even with the recent growth. For homeowners looking for a small town feel, Sublimity is a good choice.
