My local MLS has lost 8% of it’s membership since the start of the year, and I would expect that number to continue to decline over the next year. Foreclosures…short sales…buy and bail…DAP’s gone…pick something and it is making being a real estate agent harder these days.
I am having a good year this year, and my business is doing well thanks to many things. I am always realistic about the market, but I do feel the pain of other agents when I see their home come across my weekly foreclosure list. Some of the ones I have seen are agents I have worked with who are good people.
Many agents are getting part-time or full-time jobs while trying to “ride out” the market. I’ve gotten several emails from contractors looking for pest and dry rot work for real estate transactions. This economy is hard on everyone.
You plan. You focus. You work hard. Sometimes it just doesn’t seem like enough. You can’t control many elements of life, so learning to take the bumps along the way is imperative to surviving in business.
Sometimes, when you think things are really bad, watch this video. It’s a good reminder that even the most special of days don’t always go according to plan.
