Remodeling…
You start a project and then realize you are in way over your head. Ugh…time to find a contractor to help.
Ask a friend…
“Yeah, I know so and so, he’ll cut you a deal. He’s cheap.”
After spending a ton of money trying to make the project work, cheap sounds good.
The problem….illegal contractors.
Not too long ago the CCB (Construction Contractor’s Board) conducted a sting to find illegal contractors. They targeted suspected illegal contractors.
What did they find?
In the Portland sting all 9 of the contractors that responded for the request for the quote were illegal contractors, and 8 out of 9 that responded in the Eugene area were illegal contractors.
So, while cheap may sound good rule #1…check all referrals and possible contractors with the CCB for current licensing.

I recently tempted to turn in a “less than Handy man.” Unfortunatly I didn’t have enough proof. The fines that man would have faced would have been close to the $50,000 range!!!
