So Much History

This Foursquare has so much family history.

The Lind family lived there in the 1920s and were involved in the local community.

The Knowland family lived there in the early 30s before they moved to LA, even hosting a bridal shower with quite the flower display of lilies, iris, and tulips and a rather large cake. Charles was a well-known printer.

1935 had this house being used as the “BEST table board” all caps even back then and could be rented for $25 a month.

The Schmidt family did the addition in the 1950s because, with 11 children, they needed more room. Halloween was clearly a thing at their home as the kids regularly won best costumes at Englewood. David, the oldest was into drama and performed at our local Pentacle Theater.

Tom Bockelman was a local portrait photographer and would take COLOR photos for $2.00. This home has been in the Bockelman family since 1960.

Now, we are looking for a new owner to decide what the future history is for this 134-year-old home.

This 1890 Foursquare home has all of the original charm waiting to be restored. A large front porch, decorative pillars, original built-ins in the dining room, original trim, and historic windows are all there, potentially with the original fir floors under the carpet. The home has 3 legal bedrooms upstairs with the potential for a 4th by converting the bonus space into a large room/primary suite. Add a 5th bedroom by adding a closet into the back main floor room.

This home has a central location being one block from state offices and five blocks to the Capitol, 3/4 of a mile to Willamette University, 1 mile into downtown restaurants, and 1.5 miles to Salem Hospital. The 13 Bus stops 1.5 blocks from the house and 1.5 blocks away is 14th Street which is a low residential use street good for cyclists to get around town. It also is behind Safeway so grocery shopping is just across the street.

This property is located in a MU-1 (multi-use) zone and currently has residential use. It can remain a single-family residence or be converted into a triplex or 4-plex. Duplex use isn’t permitted in this zone. If you are looking to maximize the MU-1 zoning, consider a main floor office with residential apartments above and in the back to support your business pursuits.
